It’s always amazing when there are concert designed around a discount price. My extreme lack of funds increases my disposition towards cheaper shows and even free events have a special place in my heart. So this week, thanks to the kind folks at The X 103.9, they are putting on a series of No Snow Holiday Shows Dec. 6-10. They even went so far to put aside a decent number of tickets for the humble prices ranging from $10.39 to $20. Very affordable considering some of the names on the bill: The Airborne Toxic Event, The Kooks, Cake, Blue October, and Company of Thieves. I am glad to be going to two of the aforementioned shows (Kooks and The Airborne Toxic Event), and invite the rest of you to do so. It’s a perfect way to wind down after those taxing finals or pump yourself up for the test torture that’s yet to come. More information for each individual show can be found here.
So the first show on their calendar (and on my own) will be the lovely The Airborne Toxic Event. A talented Los Angeles originated group who’s descriptive song writing is always a joy to beholden. With a sound that delivers beautiful instrumentation and lyrics they quickly became a favorite. They have blown up this year to the extent of even appearing on an episode of Gossip Girl to promote their newest release All At Once. There will no doubt be countless new souls to their performance Tuesday at the Marquee Theater. Some picks from them:
The other group I’m slated to take in this fine week? The brilliantly British Kooks. With their newest release having graced shelves this past September (and Junk of the Heart stuck in my mind) I’m excited for a fresh take on their performance. Considering the last time I saw them was at Edgefest 2008, hopefully there are only good things to come. They will be performing at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino this Friday. Some picks:
