Broke's the New Black: Designer, Entrepreneur, Freshman?

Before we thought possible, here we are back for another semester.  Good thing text book rentals aren’t the only thing emerging this season.  Also returning this spring is my blog, Broke’s the New Black, for another semester of weekly fashion tips, interviews and other stylish shenanigans.

Over break, I had the privilege of being introduced to a very impressive individual.  Neema Mahmoodi, an ASU freshman, has picked up quite the extracurricular activity: starting his own clothing line.  Watch out, because this kid is only continuing to gain some serious style points.

1. So you're a freshman at ASU and now clothing line entrepreneur. How did this all begin and what sparked you to start your own brand? I have grown up in a family with very high expectations, with my Dad being an entrepreneur from a young age. I had always been fascinated with clothing and have been doing graphic design for a few years so I thought it was a great way to get started as a young entrepreneur.

2. What does your line BTH Clothing stand for? Any influences behind the brand? The BTH stands for Believe The Hype. The name came from one of my close friends Darryl Robinson who came up with it. If it had a meaning behind it, it would be that the name is ironic. It means that you shouldn't follow the hype and not believe it. You should truly create your own name and create your own style and way of life instead of following a certain path.

3. What exactly does the brand/clothing line consist of? I have many products that range from T-Shirts to Hoodies to Sweatshirts to Bracelets to finally Sunglasses.

4. Where do you see BTH Clothing and yourself going in the future? Any goals for the company? I hope to expand the company into not only clothing but a multimedia company. I have started that process by starting a music department called BTH Music by providing local talent an outlet to put their music out. Hopefully the name will get out.

5. So where can we get some BTH Clothing ourselves? You can buy everything online from www.believethehypeclothing.com. If you’re from Arizona you can contact me through e-mail from info@believethehypeclothing.com and order from there and I will deliver it to you personally.

6. Tell us more about you personally! Where are you from, age, hobbies, etc. My parents are from Iran and moved here when they where 16 years old. I was born in Chandler, Arizona and at the age of 10 I moved to Dubai for Middle School and High School and recently moved back for college. I just turned 19 years old and my hobbies are playing the guitar and watching and playing sports.

Do you know anyone fashionably interesting? Recommend them to me for a feature in a future blog. For comments or more information about BTH Clothing, email me at amlarso2@asu.edu or for more from the mind of a fashion blogger, follow me @soamandawaslike.
