Being a fashion blogger, my passion inversely correlates to the ever-glamorous stardom that our country has to offer, including the Hollywood icons. These iconic stars shaped the pop world and continue to influence future generations. When thinking about old Hollywood starlets, what better match than the infamous Marilyn Monroe?
The bad girl that everyone loved took a spin on the fashion of her time. While everyone else wore long skirts and dressed rather conservatively, Marilyn became known as a sex symbol worldwide for her hip-hugging halter tops.
“Paired with her blonde curls, bright red lipstick, dramatic eyelashes, and high-arched brows, Marilyn created a signature look all on her own, which she is still recognized for today. It is both classic and unique, and will forever be identified as “the” Monroe style,” Urbanitychic.com said.
From her curvy-yet-flawless body to her bombshell, blonde hair, Marilyn inspires the rebel in us all. Her tight dresses rocked the trends of her time and red lipstick made men worldwide go ga-ga. She influenced an entire generation, and continues to even now, so why not a new TV show?
I’m not a fan of singing shows (GLEE makes me cringe), but after seeing an advanced screening of the new NBC show SMASH, my opinion has entirely changed. SMASH is the story of a Broadway musical based on Marilyn Monroe. Taking place in New York City, the actresses and screenwriters in the show all create interesting characters whose costumes are even more enticing. The Marilyn-inspired pin-up girl costumes are adorable and iconic, and not to mention would make a great costume in 2012.
Premiering on Feb. 6, SMASH is going to be a great way to experience the vintage revival of Hollywood bombshells and the scandalous era that inspired the sexy dresses of today.
