Bravo to the football team's desire to return to Camp Tontozona. Traditions are a major part of college football, and Camp T is one of the longest traditions at ASU. Since coach Todd Graham was hired in December, he, along with former players, have stressed the importance of Camp T. While it is unclear how Tontozona truly affects wins and losses in the regular season, the team bonding and camaraderie that takes place is irreplaceable. Plus, raising $150,000 shouldn’t be too difficult for a program at a school this size.
Boo to Ted Nugent’s comments last week at an NRA convention in St. Lous. The guitar enthusiast and apparent hillbilly said if President Obama is re-elected, he will “either be dead or in jail” this time next year. Don’t confuse this shortsighted statement for Young Jeezy lyrics and don’t read into them for more than what they are: the offhand comments of another celebrity jumping on the politically aware bandwagon. Besides, the Secret Service already spoke to him, and if they say he’s cool, we’ll call him a cucumber.
Bravo to Demetri Martin coming to ASU to perform his stand-up act. As finals approach, going to the show for entertainment and laughs will be a great way to take a break from studying and give students a chance to lighten up. It is sure to provide one last laugh for the semester. At least until you show up to the Undie Run in your leopard-print briefs.
Boo to the many near-heart attacks the Phoenix Coyotes are giving their fans during the team’s playoff series against the Chicago Blackhawks. With four overtime games in a row — three of which came from late goals by the ‘Hawks — a win Saturday in regulation would be a very welcome sight. That being said, being up 3-1 while heading back to Phoenix leaves little room for complaining.
Bravo to online class management and scheduling becoming easier for college students around the nation with the free release of a Blackboard app for all types of smartphones. The app is available for download via the iPhone App Store, BlackBerry App World, Google Play Store and the PalmOS App Store. Now, when attempting to use “my computer wouldn’t access BlackBoard” as an excuse for missing an assignment, remember, there’s an app for that.
