Man gives false name, flees from police

ASU Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

  • A 36-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Monday on the 300 block of East University Drive on suspicion of refusing to provide a truthful name when lawfully detained, according to a police report.

Police spoke with the man after they saw him sitting outside a Panda Express restaurant for 20 minutes around 2 a.m., police reported.

He provided officers with two different spellings of his name, according to the report.

The man then told police he was leaving the area, because he did not have to speak with officers, police reported.

The man ran away from police after they told him he was not allowed to leave, because he was being detained, according to the report.

Police pursued the man southbound on College Avenue and yelled for him to stop, police reported.

The man stopped running and police issued him a citation, according to the report.

  •
  • A 38-year-old Fountain Hills man was arrested Friday on the 1700 block of South Mill Avenue on suspicion of racing and exhibiting speed, according to a police report.

Police spotted the man speeding through a 35 mph zone near West University Road and South Mill Avenue, police reported.

The officer pursued the man as he weaved through traffic, accelerated rapidly and traveled at high speeds, according to the report.

The man ran a red light as he turned onto Broadway Road, police reported.

Police stopped the man and pulled into the Tempe High School parking lot, police reported.

The man told the officer it only seemed like he was accelerating rapidly because of the noises the car was making, according to the report.

Police issued the man a citation and released him, police reported.
