What started out as a simple idea inspired by a family dinner party for one ASU alumnus has turned into the CW network's newest game show, "OH SIT!"

Richard Joel, a marketing and advertising graduate from the W.P. Carey School of Business, came up with the plot for the game show one evening after a family event that involved a limited amount of chairs and lots of movement to acquire food and beverages. He partnered with executive producers Phil Gurin and Deena Dill to bring "OH SIT!" to the CW.

The show, a hyped-up version of musical chairs involving obstacles, music and eager contestants, will premiere its second season on the CW on Monday, April 15.

Joel became involved with producing while in school, when he decided to give acting a shot; he later found his way into the game-show industry.

“I went from acting to producing films, and then I went from films to writing and producing reality shows; game shows," Joel said. "You know, I didn’t go to college for it, but I sort of fell into it. ... I have found sort of a niche with game shows and reality shows. ... I want to say is my perfect job.”

Joel said he felt that acting was fun, but once he realized the craft did not push him enough, he decided he would become the creator for his own ideas and use his marketing and advertising experience to sell them.

He is in Cannes, France right now attending MIPTV, a conference where ideas for shows are screened and sold and then brought over to other countries.

"OH SIT!" involves 12 physically fit contestants that go through an exhausting and difficult obstacle course in order to secure a chair all while a live band plays in the background.

The show will offer all kinds of entertainment across all sensory levels with live music, adrenaline rushes and daunting tasks. The contestant that makes it to the very last chair over the course of the hour will score a grand cash prize.

However, getting onto the show isn't easy. According to Joel, the contestants must go through a rigorous screening process before even being considered as a contestant. Multiple talent searches are done across California and more than 1,000 potential contestants have so far auditioned. Those with the most charisma, stamina and the best health record are given the opportunity to compete in the event, he said.

Viewers can catch the season premiere on April 15 on the CW. Audiences are guaranteed to have a fun time watching contestants compete in this musical game. If you are a '90s child and remember Double Dare, then you won’t want to miss this.
