Tempe Police retrieved the body of a 21-year-old former ASU student from Tempe Town Lake early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Police received a call at around 5:30 a.m. reporting that a body was floating in the lake approximately halfway between the Railroad bridge and the Mill bridge, Tempe Police spokeswoman Molly Enright said in an email.

They identified the deceased as Gerrick Begay, who last attended the University in 2010.

At this time, the death does not appear to be suspicious, Enright said. However, detectives are continuing to investigate.

ASU released a statement expressing its sadness over Begay's death.

"ASU extends its sincere condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time," the statement reads.
