Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:

A 35-year-old Phoenix man was arrested July 5 on the 2000 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of arson and trespassing, according to a police report.

The man told police he was running from "rival gang members," though he denied being in a gang himself, when he ran into an apartment complex, police reported.

He knocked on a door, and, finding no one home, climbed in through the window, according to the report.

The man told officers he looked for a phone to call the police and report the people chasing him, police reported.

When he didn't find one, he lit a blanket on fire with the gas stove and set it by the door to burn, according to the report.

He doused the fire and exited the apartment when he heard fire trucks approaching, according to the report.

The man told paramedics that he intentionally set the fire and didn't know anyone in the complex, according to the report.

He was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, police reported.

A 32-year-old Tempe woman and a 32-year-old Tempe man were arrested July 2 on the 1800 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of trespassing and possession of marijuana, dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to a police report.

Officers found the couple sitting on a garage in a gated community in which neither of them lived, police reported.

A search of the man's backpack revealed two glass pipes for methamphetamine and a small plastic baggie with the drug, according to the report.

The man told officers the pipes and the methamphetamine were his, and that he had used it earlier in the day, police reported. He said he had enough for 10 hits of the substance, according to the report.

The woman had a baggie of methamphetamine, a glass pipe for smoking it, a multicolored pipe for smoking marijuana and a container with a mixture of marijuana and spice, police reported.

She told officers that she relapsed into a drug habit about three weeks prior and has been using methamphetamine daily, according to the report.

She said she used the mixture of marijuana and spice to counteract the methamphetamine, police reported.

Both individuals were transported to Tempe City Jail, where they were booked and released pending charges.

A 22-year-old Yuma man was arrested July 4 on the 100 block of South Mill Avenue on suspicion of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct, according to a police report.

An officer patrolling the streets during July 4 celebrations was flagged down by two individuals who said a man nearby had a knife and put it up to one of their necks, police reported.

They pointed to the man, who was walking away, according to the report. The officer watched him fold a knife and put it in his pocket, then shouted "Tempe Police" several times to get the man to stop, police reported.

The man turned and began walking toward the officer, flailing his arms about, according to the report. When the officer attempted to grab the man's arm to stop him, the man grabbed his bright green traffic vest and pulled him toward him, trying to punch him, police reported.

The officer punched the man in the face, causing him to let go, then drew his Taser, according to the report. When the man refused to follow the officer's commands to get on the ground, he deployed his Taser, police reported.

After going through a five-second Taser cycle, the man got up and continued ignoring the officer's commands, according to the report.

The officer used his Taser again, at which point the man told him not to do it again and began following the officer's orders, police reported.

Additional officers arrived to help transport the man to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge.
