A 44-year-old Phoenix man was arrested July 11 near Fifth Street and Mill Avenue on suspicion of possession and use of a vapor releasing substance, according to a police report.

The man was contacted by police at the intersection, and investigation revealed that he was in possession of a silver can of spray paint, which he was inhaling, according to the report.

After his arrest, the man admitted to stealing the can of spray paint from a local Wal-Mart, spraying it into a can and inhaling it all day long to get high because he did not have any marijuana or other drugs, according to the report.

The man told police he has been inhaling paint for several years despite knowing that it is illegal, and he said he prefers silver paint over gold paint because it tastes better, according to police.

He was arrested and booked into Tempe City Jail, according to the police report.

 

A 58-year-old Phoenix man was arrested July 10 near the 3400 block of South Hardy Drive on suspicion of burglary, according to a police report.

A police investigation revealed that the man climbed over a locked, 7-foot patio fence, rummaged through the victim's items and removed a mountain bike valued at about $1,000, according to the report.

The man, who was observed rummaging through the items by the victim's son, dropped the bicycle and ran when he was confronted by the victim, according to police.

The victim followed the suspect on foot and saw him picking up rocks before he continued to flee, according to the report.

The victim called police, who found the suspect hiding in a parking lot near the 2600 block of South Roosevelt Drive, according to police.

The victim and the witness identified the suspect for police and he was subsequently arrested, booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
