Police: Man points gun at passers-by


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

  • A 42-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sunday on the 1100 block of West Baseline Road on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, prohibited weapon possession and extreme driving under the influence, according to a police report.The man parked his car in a parking lot while he was trying to locate his son, police reported.

    He then proceeded to point his shotgun at various people near his car, according to the report.

    Several witnesses told police they feared for their lives, police reported.

    The man told police that he had messed up and wanted to scare people, according to the report.

    Police noticed a distinct odor about the man and administered a preliminary breath test, police reported.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held pending charges, according to the report.

  • A Tempe man was arrested Monday on the 2100 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia possession and violation of promise to appear, according to a police report.Officers approached the man after being contacted about an unwanted guest in a Circle K, police reported.

    The man was arrested after officers discovered he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear, according the report.

    When police searched the man, they found two bags containing methamphetamine in his coin pocket, according to the report.

    The man said the drugs were not his, but that they belonged to a person he knew as “Hillbilly,” who had lent him the pants, police reported.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held, according to the police.
