Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:
- A 36-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sept. 21 on the 1500 block of West University Drive on suspicion of burglary, disorderly conduct and criminal damage, according to a police report.
The man and his cousin arrived at the apartments on West University Drive where they began yelling and demanding surrounding tenants give them the address of a resident they claimed lived at in the apartments and owed them money, police reported.
The two eventually located an apartment and attempted to open the front door, but it was locked, according to the report.
The man punched through the front glass window, causing several hundred dollars in damage, police reported.
The man then reached through the window and unlocked the dead bolt on the door and went inside the residence, according to police.
Witnesses reported hearing loud bangs and noise coming from inside, which they believed were the men putting holes into the walls, police said.
While inside, the man took an electronic keyboard, and then the two walked back to their car and drove away, according to the report.
The men were later identified and both were arrested, and police reported finding a stolen loaded handgun in the cousin’s possession.
Police reported that the man said he had been drinking prior to the burglary.
The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
- A 23-year-old Tempe woman was arrested Sept. 18 on the 2300 block of East University Drive on suspicion of discharging a firearm and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, according to a police report.
An investigation revealed the woman had brought home a gun she was given by an acquaintance with the intention of pawning the weapon, the report said.
The woman said she was trying to uncock the revolver when she accidentally pulled the trigger and fired a round, police reported.
Police said the shot went through the wall inside her bedroom.
The report said that immediately after the shot, the woman’s roommate came in and took the gun and ammunition from her but did not immediately call police.
The man later spoke with the woman’s mother, who called police, according to the report.
Police said the woman was not allowed to possess a gun because she was on probation for marijuana possession and misconduct involving weapons.
Police reported finding a .38 special from a dresser drawer in her bedroom, and four live rounds in the roommate’s bedroom.
According to police the woman denied being suicidal or that she was trying to hurt herself, but they submitted a petition for an involuntary committal at a psychiatric clinic.
She was later transported to Tempe City Jail where she was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
