  • A 36-year-old Tempe man was arrested Aug. 28 on the 900 block of West Grove Parkway on suspicion of aggravated assault, theft and assault with intent to injure, according to a police report.Police arrested the man after he was involved in an altercation near his apartment, the report said.

Police reported the altercation began because of damage to a cellphone and the man had struck another man several times in the face.

During the fight, a gun fell to the ground, and the man picked it up and continued hitting the second man in the face with it, the report said.

Police reported that the second man suffered several lacerations and abrasions to his head and face.

An acquaintance of the man told him to calm down and hand over the gun, but instead the man pointed it at the acquaintance and told him to back up, the report said.

Police said the man then fled the scene with the gun and was found by police a short time later at his apartment in the same complex.

When the officer came up to the car, he reported seeing two open cans of Budweiser in the center console and an open 12-pack of beer in the back seat.

Officers asked the three passengers to exit the car, and police reported smelling marijuana coming from it, according to police.

A search of the car revealed two more Budweiser beer cans on the rear passenger floorboard and a multi-colored glass pipe under the passenger seat, police reported.

Police reported the pipe had what appeared to be marijuana residue and found a bag containing marijuana near the passenger’s seat.
