Police: Man found with heroin paraphernalia in rectum

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

  • An 18-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sept. 4 on the 1100 block of North Rose Street on suspicion of drug paraphernalia, narcotic and dangerous drug possession, according to a police report.

A witness notified police that the man and two others inside a vehicle were acting suspiciously and possibly using drugs, the report said.

Police arrived and stopped the car, and the man and another occupant said they used heroin while in the car, police said.

A search of the car found a usable amount of heroin and multiple syringes inside a bag on the floorboard, according to police.

Police reported that the man told police he had smoked some of the heroin just prior to their arrival.

He was taken to Tempe City Jail, where a strip search found a small plastic straw in his shorts pocket and two grape-sized balls of aluminum foil in his anus, police reported.

Police said the one of the balls of foil had black residue consistent with smoking heroin.

He was booked and released pending charges, the report said.

  • A 27-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sept. 8 near South Alder and East Watson drives on suspicion of aggravated driving under the influence, according to a police report.

An officer pulled the man over after he was seen driving northbound on McClintock Drive at 60 mph in a 45 mph zone and was failing to stay inside the lane lines, the report said.

When the officer approached the car, he reported smelling the distinct odor of alcohol coming from the man. The officer also reported that the man’s speech was so slurred, he had trouble understanding him.

Police reported that when the officer asked him to get out of the car, he nearly fell.

The officer took a blood-alcohol test, and police reported that the man had a measure of 0.205 percent.

A records check showed that the man had an ignition interlock restriction on his license, but at the time of the arrest it was not in the car, according to police.

The man was taken to Tempe City Jail and held, according to police.
