Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:
- A 20-year-old Mesa man was arrested Aug. 19 at the 2100 block of East Orange Street on suspicion of marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.
Around midnight, an officer approached the man, who he saw hiding behind a pillar at Escalante Park, according to the report.
Police said the officer also saw the man drop a yellow backpack next to the pillar and begin walking away.
When asked about the backpack, the man denied it was his, but the officer said a cell phone charger inside matched the cell phone the man had in his pocket, according to the report.
The report said a mason jar containing marijuana was also found inside the backpack.
The officer asked the man who owned the jar, and the man responded he didn't know, according to police.
The man was taken to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges.
- A 26-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Aug. 16 in a parking lot on the 200 block of West Fifth Street on suspicion of marijuana drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.
Police saw the man rolling a blunt as he sat in the driver’s seat of his car, the report said.
When officers contacted the man, he was holding the blunt in his left hand and said that it had marijuana in it, according to the report.
The man handed the blunt to an officer, who then placed him under arrest, the report said.
A plastic bag containing marijuana was also found in the man’s front left pocket, according to police.
He was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to police.
