Police: Minor litters, caught with alcohol


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:

  • A 20-year-old Tucson man was arrested Aug. 30 at East Seventh Street and South Mill Avenue on suspicion of marijuana and alcohol possession, being a minor in consumption of alcohol and criminal littering, according to a police report.Late in the evening, an officer reported seeing the man drink from a clear plastic cup and throw it on the ground in an alleyway.The officer picked up the cup, smelled it and saw a small amount of beer still in the bottom, according to the report.

    The officer stopped to talk to the man and gave him a breath test that showed the man had alcohol in his system, the report said.

    While searching the man, the officer found a plastic bag containing marijuana in his front left pocket, according to the report.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and released pending charges, police reported.

 
  • A 34-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Aug. 29 on the 200 block of West Fifth Street on suspicion of narcotic, marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.Police reported seeing the man sitting in his car for an extended period of time, and the officer who approached the car reported smelling marijuana.Police also said the man was seen dropping a small plastic bag that contained a white powdery substance, later identified as cocaine.

    While searching the vehicle, the officer found a half-burnt marijuana cigarette in the cup holder, according to police.

    The man said he used the cocaine to help him stay awake at his job, police reported.

    He was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, the report said.
