Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:

  • A 20-year-old woman was arrested Sept. 5 at South Lola Lane and East Lemon Street on suspicion of stealing a car, drug paraphernalia possession and having three outstanding warrants for her arrest, according to a police report.

The woman was the passenger of a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier that evening, police reported. She told officers the car belonged to the driver’s friend “Johnny,” who had been arrested two weeks before and had given them permission to use it, according to the report.

When officers asked them why they needed the car, the woman told them they were going to meet a friend and purchase heroin, according to the report.

The woman then said she knew the car was stolen but had gotten in it because she needed a ride, police said.

Officers checked the woman’s record and found warrants from the cities of Chandler and Mesa, according to the report.

A search revealed a black cloth case with two syringes, a spoon with dark residue, a shoelace and cotton swabs inside the woman’s purse, police reported.

The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and held to see a judge.

  • A 40-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Sept. 8 at Broadway Road and 48th Street on suspicion of two outstanding warrants, failure to appear and marijuana and paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.

Officers contacted the man after seeing him ride his motorcycle against the flow of traffic and running a red light, police reported.

After pulling the man over, police realized there were three outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to the report.

Police said the man said he had marijuana with him, and a search revealed a usable quantity of green leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana in his left front and left rear pocket.

The man told officers he did not have a medical marijuana card and repeatedly asked them to “throw it away,” according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held pending charges, police reported.
