Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday:
- A 21-year Tempe woman was arrested Sept. 6 on the 5000 block of South Arizona Mills Circle on suspicion of two counts of organized retail theft after she admitted to intentionally concealing $1,886 worth of merchandise at Saks Fifth Avenue on Aug. 4 and Sept. 6, according to a police report.
A Saks Fifth Avenue Loss Prevention officer said he observed the woman and another woman enter the store, conceal items and leave, police reported.
The Loss Prevention officer identified himself and the women put their purses down, but then ran toward their vehicle. The officer followed the women to get a license plate number, and her vehicle wouldn't start, police reported.
The two women surrendered and went to Loss Prevention with the officer, according to the report.
The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and released pending charges, police reported.
- A 23-year-old Gilbert man was arrested Sept. 5 on the 2000 block of East Lemon Street on suspicion of vehicle theft, according to a police report.
An officer ran the license plate of the vehicle the man was driving after it made several quick turns and then parked on East Lemon Street, police reported.
The man was met at gunpoint by the officer as he was quickly exiting the driver seat and was detained, police reported.
The man said he was given permission to drive the vehicle by his friend, the son of the registered owner, police reported.
The officer asked the man why he attempted to exit the vehicle, and he said it was in the back of his mind that his friend's parent might have reported it stolen, according to a police report.
When asked why he did not bring the vehicle back if he thought it might have been reported stolen, the man said he needed it to get around, police reported.
The man later said the registered owner's daughter messaged him on Facebook and told him the car had been reported stolen, according to the report. He then said he did not take the vehicle back to the owner, because he needed it to get around, police reported.
A search of the vehicle revealed a black sock in the driver's door pocket which contained a spoon with black tar residue, a used syringe and a shoelace, according to the report. The man said he was a heroin user and that was his kit, police reported.
A records check revealed that the man's driver's license was suspended and he had two outstanding city of Mesa warrants, police reported.
The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held on his warrant charge, according to the report.
