Moped catches fire at apartment complex near Tempe campus

A moped caught fire in the parking garage of the Hayden Square Condominiums on Wednesday, Tempe Fire Department officials said.

The Tempe Fire Department received a call at 11:39 a.m. alerting them to a vehicle fire in the parking garage located in the 150 block of west Fifth Street, Deputy Fire Chief District Manager Mitch Bycura said.

Approximately two minutes later, firetrucks responded to the call and put the fire out, Bycura said.

"It was a pretty quickly resolved incident," Bycura said.

No one was injured in the fire, and only the moped was damaged, Bycura said.

Fire department officials were remaining on scene until the electric company could confirm that electric panels were not damaged, Bycura said.
