Police: Man drives with suspended license, transports marijuana

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:

  • A 30-year-old Gilbert man was arrested Oct. 10 on the 220 block of East Baseline Road on suspicion of transporting marijuana, according to a police report.

An officer stopped the man’s car after he was seen failing to stop while exiting a driveway, the report said.

A records check showed the man had a suspended license, so officers removed the man and two passengers from the car, police reported.

While doing an inventory on the car before it was towed, the officer found marijuana between the front passenger seat and the center console, according to the report.

A narcotic detective was called and a K-9 unit alerted officers to a package sitting behind the passenger seat, police said.

The report said officers searched the box and found 1.2 pounds of marijuana inside vacuum-sealed bags.

Officers questioned the passenger of the car, who told police they had packaged the marijuana at his apartment, police reported.

Police said they later served a search warrant at the apartment and found more marijuana, drug paraphernalia and packaging supplies.

All three men were taken to Tempe City Jail, where they were booked and released pending charges, the report said.

  •

  • A 40-year-old Peoria man was arrested Oct. 10 on the 3000 block of East Broadway Road on suspicion of credit card theft, burglary and possession of marijuana, dangerous drugs and paraphernalia, according to a police report.

Police reported that on Sept. 4 the man burglarized a car on the 1300 block of North College Avenue by breaking in the driver’s side window.

The man stole a Coach purse that contained credit cards, the report said.

He used the credit card at a Chevron in Phoenix, charging $125, and a gift card at a Circle K in Phoenix, police reported.

He also tried to use a debit card at a Valero in Phoenix, but the card was declined, according to police.

Police collected security video from all three businesses, which showed the man making the purchase at the Circle K and his vehicle at the other two locations, police reported.

When officers arrested the man, they reported finding marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to the report.

He was arrested and taken to the hospital for an unrelated medical issue, police said.

Police asked the hospital to call police when he was supposed to be released, but he fled before being medically cleared, the report said.

Then on Oct. 10, the man was arrested on the 3000 block of East Broadway Road in Mesa and transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked, according to the report.
