Police: Man found with meth, pipe in pocket


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday:

  • A 53-year-old Tempe man was arrested at North Sunset and East Saguaro drives on suspicion of drug paraphernalia and dangerous drug possession and use, according to a police report.

    The man was riding his bike while holding a flashlight when police began to talk to him about drug issues in the area, police said.

    Police reported that the man said he was a recovering meth and marijuana addict, and he gave officers permission to search him.

    Officers found a small pipe with a usable quantity of meth inside, according to the report.

    The man then told him that he was addicted to meth, police said.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to the report.

  • A 25-year-old Phoenix man was arrested at West Sixth Street and South Maple Avenue on suspicion of marijuana possession and use, drug paraphernalia possession and theft, according to a police report.

    The man was sitting in the back seat of his car in a parking lot when he opened the door to ash a cigarette, police said.

    Police reported when the man saw the officer walking toward him he tried to hide his cigarette, which officers identified as marijuana.

    Officers also found an ashtray valued at $50 from Churchill’s Fine Cigars, and the man said he stole it from the store, according to the police report.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, police said.

  • A 30-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Oct. 15 at West Third Street and South Mill Avenue on suspicion of dangerous drug possession, according to a police report.

    The man was walking down the light rail tracks, and when police spoke to him a pill fell out of his pocket, police said.

    The pill, which police identified as MDMA or ecstasy, was one of a pair that the man had bought and taken, police reported.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to the police report.
