Police: Man leaves crash scene

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

  • A 35-year-old Mesa man was arrested Oct. 11 on the 1900 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of aggravated DUI and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.

Witnesses saw the man failing to maintain a single lane in his Cadillac, according to the report. Eventually, the man got his vehicle stuck on the concrete median dividing the road and the light rail tracks near Apache Boulevard and McClintock Drive, the report said.

Once the vehicle became stuck, he abandoned the car and walked away, police said.

A witness gave police a description and he was located a few minutes later walking east on Apache Boulevard, according to the report.

The man told police he had been driving the Cadillac and that he owned the car, police reported.

An officer said the man smelled like alcohol and could not balance without swaying.

The man told police he had been drinking vodka and had smoked methamphetamine the day before, and a portable breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .101 percent, according to police.

He was placed under arrest, and a background check showed he had a suspended license, according to police.

Police searched the man and found a glass pipe in his shirt pocket with residue consistent with methamphetamines in the bowl, police reported.

He was booked into Tempe City Jail, the report said.

  • An 18-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Oct. 13 on the 1100 block of East Redondo Circle on suspicion of theft and marijuana possession, according to a police report.

Police received a call that the man and three others were attempting to take the wheels of a vehicle and had left in a pickup truck, the report said.

An officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description and pulled the car over, according to police.

The officer reported seeing a large vehicle jack in the bed of the pickup, and there were also at least two tire irons in the backseat behind the driver.

The men exited the car and were seated on the curb, where a witness identified two of the men and said they were taking lug nuts off of a vehicle, police reported.

While searching the car, the officer found a small white bag with marijuana inside, lug nut covers and lug nuts, the report said.

One of the men was a juvenile and was released to his parents, and the other three were taken into custody, police reported.

The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and held to see a judge, the report said.
