Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday:
- A 20-year-old Tempe woman was arrested Oct. 4 on the 600 block of West 16th Street on suspicion of burglary, according to a police report.
Police reported the woman stepped behind the counter at Circle K and removed two packs of Parliament Cigarettes before exiting the store without paying for them.
Police later contacted the woman at her home, where she told police she had done nothing wrong, police said.
She said she knew the clerk and had paid him $20 to hold the two packages of cigarettes, valued at $16, before his shift started, according to the police report.
The woman said when she came to retrieve the cigarettes, the clerk refused to give them to her, police reported.
According to the report, she then returned with her friend “Happy,” who distracted the clerk while the woman stepped behind the counter.
Police transported the woman to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and held, police reported.
- A 52-year-old Tempe woman was arrested Oct. 2 on the 900 block of East Baseline Road on suspicion of fleeing from police officers, according to a police report.
Police said the woman was driving down two lanes and swerving on Rural Road.
The officer turned on his lights and attempted to pull her over, according to the report. She then increased her speed from 35 mph to 40 mph and continued driving, police reported.
When she failed to pull over, the officer turned on his sirens, but the woman began driving more than 50 mph, according to the police report.
The officer called for reinforcements to find the woman further down the road, and he stopped following her, police said.
When officers found her, they saw the woman drive over a median and make a wide left turn into a parking garage, according to the report.
The woman told officers that she saw the police officer’s lights but did not hear the sirens or realize she was supposed to pull over, police reported.
