Tempe Police: Man steals candy at CVS

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

A 23-year-old Tempe man was arrested Oct. 25 on the 800 block of South Mill Avenue on suspicion of shoplifting, dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.

Police responded to a CVS Pharmacy located on Mill Avenue after the man stole three Hershey candy bars, the report said.

The report said the man concealed the candy and tried to leave the store but was contacted by an on-site security guard.

The security guard detained and searched the man, and the guard found a methamphetamine pipe and spice in his front pocket, according to police.

The man told police he hid the candy in his pants and that he was hungry, police reported.

He was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to police.

An 20-year-old Mesa man was arrested Oct. 24 on the 1900 block of East University Drive on suspicion of false reporting, resisting arrest, burglary, minor in consumption and being a fugitive from justice, according to a police report.

The man was seen running from another man’s truck as he returned to his vehicle, the report said.

The owner of the truck looked inside and saw his lunch bag, Coach wallet, iPod and Harley Davidson pocketknife were missing, according to police.

The truck owner saw the man running away with his lunch bag and got in his truck and followed him, police reported.

He caught up to the man and tripped him, and then recovered his things, police said.

Security guards contacted both men and called police, according to the report.

Once the man heard police were being called, he ran away, the report said.

Officers took a description from the security guards and the truck owner, police reported.

Responding officers searched the area and when officers spotted the man, he ran into a nearby apartment complex, according to the report.

One of the apartment residents told police the man was hiding in one of the complex’s storage unit, officers reported.

Police reported that when they found the man and arrested him, he gave them a fake name.

During a background check, officers discovered the man had multiple warrants for his arrest, the police report said.

Police said he told officers he had been drinking before the incident.

He was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
