Tempe Police reported the following incident Thursday:
- A 21-year-old Mesa woman was arrested Jan. 10 on the 1600 block of North Scottsdale Road on suspicion of unlawful means of transportation, according to a police report.Officers contacted the woman after seeing her entering and exiting the driver’s seat of a stolen car, police said.The woman was seen opening the trunk of the vehicle and acting as a lookout when a man went into the parking lot to meet her, the report said.
Police contacted the woman and the man as they were leaving the parking lot, according to the report.
The woman told police that she did not know anything about the car, but officers saw she was holding the keys, the report said.
After police told the woman they had seen her entering the car, the woman said she had been driving it earlier in the day, according to the report.
The woman said a friend had given her the car a day before and told her to give the keys to a man named Jeff, police said.
The woman told police she did not know how to contact Jeff and had driven the car to give it back to her friend, according to the report.
When police asked the woman if she knew the car was stolen, she told them she didn’t care because “she lives in her own world,” the report said.
A search revealed a hypodermic needle in the woman’s backpack, police said.
The woman said she smokes and snorts methamphetamine, but the needle belonged to a friend, police reported.
The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
