Tempe Police: Friend asks man to return iPhone, didn't mention it was stolen

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:

A 26-year-old Glendale man was arrested Nov. 9 on the 2400 block of West University Drive on suspicion of theft and trafficking in stolen property, according to a police report.

A local business owner originally called police because his black iPhone 4 had been stolen from inside his unlocked car that was parked outside of the business, police reported.

The business owner proceeded to use a different phone to text his phone and offer a reward to whoever would return it, according to the report.

The business owner and the man with the phone set up a meeting location on Mill Avenue, police reported.

The man with the stolen phone arrived at the location and was placed in handcuffs by waiting officers, according to the report.

The man told officers that his friend had given him the iPhone earlier in the day and asked him to deliver it to the meeting location for $200, police reported.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.

A 47-year-old Mesa man was arrested Nov. 9 at Baseline and Rural roads on suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession, driving under the influence, operating vehicle in violation of restriction and unlawful flight from law enforcement, according to a police report.

Officers originally attempted to pull the man over after he made an illegal right turn on a red light, police reported.

The officer turned on his lights, but the man did not pull over in his vehicle, according to the report. The officer then turned on his siren, but the man continued driving, police reported.

Several other officers began following the man in marked police vehicles with their lights and sirens on, according to the report.

While the man drove aimlessly through a neighborhood, officers blocked of a street with their vehicles in an attempt to stop the man, police reported.

Once the man was stopped, he told officers that he was “scared” so he didn’t pull over, according to the report.

While searching the man’s car, officers found a crack pipe that the man said was his friend’s, police reported.

The man was also not wearing corrective lenses, which his license said he needed to drive, according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, police reported.
