Tempe Police: Woman borrows car from 'criminal' friend to drive 600 miles

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:

An Amarillo, Texas, woman was arrested Nov. 21 on the 1200 block of West Baseline Road on suspicion of vehicle theft, according to a police report.

The woman was driving a car that had no registration, which prompted officers to follow the car, police reported.

The woman then drove the car through a gas station parking lot, across several lanes of traffic and struck a curb, according to the report.

Officers said the woman appeared nervous and did not have a license, police reported.

Officers also noted the car had been reported stolen in Texas, and the license plate had been altered with a black magic marker, according to the report.

The woman said she had borrowed from a lifelong friend, whom she knew to be an active criminal, police reported. However, the woman said her friend had told her he had borrowed the car from a lady friend, according to the report.

The lifelong friend had let the woman borrow the car to drive more than 600 miles to see her family in Arizona, police reported.

The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.

A Guadalupe man was arrested Nov. 22 on the 1400 block of West Broadway Road on suspicion of criminal littering, resisting arrest and prescription drug possession, according to a police report.

Officers originally saw the man swinging a plastic bag with random things in it and throwing the bag into the air, police reported.

The man pulled away when officers attempted to talk to him and place him under arrest, even though the officers identified themselves as police officers, according to the report.

The man had two Tramadol Hydrcloride pills, a 4-inch blade that had been broken off a pocket knife and a wrench with a hidden fold out knife inside, police reported

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked, according to the report.
