Tempe Police: Man shoplifts from Home Depot, lies to officers about identity


Tempe Police reported the following incident Monday:

A 33-year-old Phoenix man was arrested at the McDonald’s located on the 1400 block of West Baseline Road on suspicion of shoplifting, lying to law enforcement dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.

The man was first seen concealing several items, worth $790.92, with a shopping bag inside a Home Depot, according to the report. He then exited the store without paying for any of the items, police reported.

An employee contacted Tempe Police, and officers contacted the man at the McDonald’s, according to the report, according to the report.

The man lied to officers about his identity and date of birth, police reported. Officers searched the man and found a bag of methamphetamine in his sweatshirt pocket and a glass-smoking pipe in his possession, police reported.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, police reported.
