ASU women’s golf hit -11 overall at the Windy City Classic in Wilmette, Illinois, and took fourth place on Tuesday.

The Sun Devils were -1 away from joining the three-way tie for first which featured host Northwestern, Arizona and Georgia.

The team went with junior Monica Vaughn, sophomores Roberta Liti, Sophia Zeeb, freshmen Madison Kerley and Linnea Strom and played Georgia and Purdue for the first two rounds of day one.

The team started off hitting +3, and was tied for fifth place with rival Arizona. Strom started off well, hitting -2 in the first round and Vaughn was even on par for the first round.

The rest of the team struggled a bit as Kerley hit +4, Zeeb hit +5 and Liti hit +1.

ASU hit -6 in the second round, facing Georgia and Purdue once again and saw themselves fall to sixth place behind Arizona.

All but two Sun Devils hit below par – Liti finished +2 and Zeeb hit +6. The team was in a great position to get back in the top five and on day two, the Sun Devils put together their best day of the tournament.

The team hit -8 on the final round facing Oklahoma State and Arizona, taking fourth place with a score -11 overall.

The ladies themselves put everything together, with all but one of them hitting in the negatives. Kerley had the best night, hitting -4, and Strom had the worst night, hitting +2.

The team continued to play at a higher level at the end of tournaments and was able to place three of their players on the top 10 individually: Kerley (-4) tied for 6th place with Northwestern sophomore Hannah Kim and Arizona’s junior Wanasa Zhou and both Vaughn and Strom (-9) each tied for ninth place with three other contestants.

The team will head to Palo Alto, California on Oct. 18-20 for the Stanford Intercollegiate.
