Undergraduate Student Government Tempe swore in its new officers on Tuesday at the end of its first Senate meeting of the spring 2019 semester.

Chaz Simmons is now filling the role of vice president of services, which opened up after USGT President Allison Sorgeloos resigned and former VPS Nikki Tran took her place.

Two candidates were up for the position of vice president of policy: Hanna Salem, the current director of civic engagement, and Alex Baker. Both candidates were allowed seven minutes to present to the senate on why they would be best for the position. Following their presentations, the senate had five minutes to ask them questions.

The position of vice president of policy was left open following the impeachment of John Gimenez in the fall.

After deliberation, the senate voted to appoint Alex Baker to the office of VPP.

USGT also filled two directorships. Stephanie Gerhart was sworn in as director of student wellness andJustin Rizzo as director of student health.

Jamila Rahim, former director of diversity and inclusion, was also appointed as chief of staff at Tuesday's meeting.
