As has been long suspected since he arrived in Tempe, junior Cutter Boley has been named starting quarterback for the Sun Devils.
ESPN's Pete Thamel broke the news on X Saturday morning ahead of ASU's practice that the Kentucky transfer will be manning the ship in 2026.
ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham spoke on the decision after practice.
"We think Cutter is the best opportunity for us to go win football games," he said, per Brad Denny of AZ Family. "We feel like he deserves it and he won it."
Boley beat out veteran sixth-year Michigan transfer Mikey Keene and freshman four-star Jake Fette for the starting job. The quarterback room was informed of the decision last night, Thamel said on X.
Dillingham also praised the entirety of the quarterback room for getting better throughout the offseason.

In two years at Kentucky, starting 11 games, Boley threw for 2,498 yards and 17 touchdowns while adding two more on the ground. Turnovers have been an underlying issue for Boley; he was picked off 16 times in his two seasons with the Wildcats, including 12 times in 2025.
"The experience to play at a high level is huge, because the lights aren't going to be too bright for him," Dillingham said on Boley playing in the SEC, per Denny. "At least he understands what the biggest atmospheres in college football look like."
Boley has plenty of support around him in his first season at the helm, especially with the transfers of highly coveted wide receiver seniors Omarion Miller and Reed Harris, who give the offense two proven weapons to help ease his job and lead the wide receiver room.
The news comes one week before ASU's season opener, where the Sun Devils and Boley will face Morgan State at Mountain America Stadium on Sept. 5.
