Amber Freeman was never supposed to be here. After being told at age 11 that she would never play softball again, the senior catcher has defied the odds and grown into a two-time All-American, staking her claim as one of the greatest Sun Devils of all time. She has also grown into a vocal and emotional leader within this ASU team. “I feel like I’m always being a teacher, trying to guide (my teammates) along,” Freeman said.

A day after the program fired Herb Sendek, ASU men’s basketball will have another hole to fill. Center Connor MacDougall has announced his intentions to leave ASU, according to azcentral sports’ Doug Haller. MacDougall impressed in the Maroon and Gold Scrimmage before the season, but did not get much playing time before injuring his shoulder in early February. Davon Durant pleaded not guilty on three counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and one count of felony aggravated assault in front of a judge Wednesday morning at Maricopa County Superior Court. News broke at the first ASU football spring practice that Durant, the only five-star prospect in ASU’s 2015 recruiting class, had been removed from the roster following his arrest on March 6. The judge recorded his not guilty plea and mentioned that Durant has still failed to provide a DNA sample and warned him that not doing so by the end of the day could result in the state issuing a warrant. What was seen as ASU football’s biggest potential flaw just a year ago may be its biggest strength heading into the 2015 season. The Sun Devil defense is expected to return nine starters in 2015, with the two players replacing departed seniors Damarious Randall and Marcus Harrison each having received their fair share of playing time in 2014. In the eyes of head coach Todd Graham, the most integral players to the ASU defense are redshirt junior linebacker Laiu Moeakiola and redshirt senior safety Jordan Simone.
