Boos and Bravos: Playboy celebrates female form, ASU

BOO to another tuition increase. President Crow said, "We will be making a recommendation for increase, but only after consultation with students and community leaders." It's the "will" that concerns us. It sounds like Crow's already made up his mind there "will" be an increase. We know ASU needs money, but we're still licking our wounds from the last hike. Ouch.

BRAVO to a new smallpox vaccine. ASU microbiology professor Bertram Jacobs received a $5.5 million grant from the National Institute of Health to develop a safer shot. The old one kills some of those it vaccinates. We've always thought that was counterproductive.

BRAVO to ASU women's volleyball. We like your 'Dressed to Kill' posters all over town. You're living up to your hype. Now how 'bout telling the football players how you beat UA on Friday so they'll be prepared come Thanksgiving?

BOO to Sun Devil football. We hear that our sports editor's parents are USC fans, and - after watching ASU get pummeled by Oregon State last weekend - we can't exactly blame them.

BRAVO to Playboy tryouts. And to the ASU girls who had the guts to play bunny for the camera. We can't knock a publication that celebrates the female form AND ranked ASU as the No. 1 party school last year.

BRAVO to the justice studies department. Thanks for speaking up against University Design Team recommendations that said you should move to west campus. And for reminding us that we have a voice in things that go on at this campus.

Even if they're done in secret.

BOO to Karsten Golf Course re-seeding. Arizona golf courses need tougher grass to survive the state's frigid winters, but this is really messing with our swing.

BRAVO to the Refugee Resettlement Volunteers at ASU, a group of students that helps refugee families from all over the world acclimate to life in America.

BOO to more expensive lofts in campus near Tempe. We can't afford the ones that already are here. Hey Tempe, most of the people who go to ASU aren't yuppies.

BRAVO to free food. The Memorial Union's Union Plaza finally had a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its grand opening. You've never seen 10 State Pressers move so fast.

We'd like to let good folks at the MU know that we'll be thinking of them fondly when we use our brand-new Salsa Rico bottle openers this evening. For soda, of course.
