Some students at ASU East know that art means more than paint and paper.

Forty graphics information technology students submitted artwork to the third annual art exhibition at ASU East sponsored by the campus's GIT club.

This semester's club president, Magdalena Soto, a graduate student who specializes in photo manipulation, said many forms of art were submitted.

"There's a music video, flash puzzles, 3-D animation, both print based art and computer art," she said.

Soto added that many of the students contributed work that was also used as their final projects.

Elizabeth Reeves, a GIT graduate student and president of the Women in Technology Club, said four student works would receive awards.

"We're having students and faculty vote on their favorites," Reeves said. "There will be a grand prize, first, second and third place."

Soto said she will be collecting votes this week. The results will be announced by Monday.

"We will be posting the results on the GIT Club Web page and also on the Blackboard for GIT students," she added.

Computers were prepared so that visitors could see a sample of the 3-D animation and virtual puzzles students created. A total of 59 pieces decorated the ballroom.

Reeves compared the artwork to last year's show.

"I think the caliber is higher this year," she said. "A lot of students submitted this year as well as last and they've improved."

John Matson, the faculty adviser for the GIT Club, said he is working to get a permanent art display set up in the new student union.

"The objective is to contribute to the community at East," he added. "We will probably have a permanent display of student work in the new student union building when it is completed."

The student work will be on display for the public the rest of the month in the Student Union Ballroom. To see the top four art exhibits and to get information on the GIT club, visit the Web site at http://eastweb.east.asu.edu/gitclub/.
