Finally, something has gone right in the sports graveyard that is Arizona.
Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb won the National League Cy Young Award Tuesday over San Diego's Trevor Hoffman and St. Louis' Chris Carpenter.
Sure, Webb (16-8) became the first pitcher to win the Cy Young with only 16 wins, but that's a deceiving stat.
The Arizona offense often struggled to give Webb the run support he needed, scoring four or less runs in seven of his eight losses.
He deserved the award despite the D-backs' less than desirable finish in the standings, and now it's time to look forward.
A returning Cy Young winner will certainly boost fan morale heading into next season. But Webb was only one of many bright spots for the Diamondbacks, including the emergence of rising stars Stephen Drew and Carlos Quinten.
Throw in the stylish new jerseys the team will be sporting next season and you've got the perfect formula for hype.
Let's just hope they handle it better than some of their local professional counterparts.
