NEW CHAMP: ASU freshman Micky Benedetti rotates in a dive during practice at the Mona Plummer Aquatics Center.

Redshirt freshman Micky Benedetti's impressive season kept on rolling last weekend.

Benedetti claimed the platform diving title in the NCAA zone E regionals in Oklahoma City, Okla., Saturday.

His first-place finish was just one of his trio of top-three finishes on the weekend.

Benedetti finished the platform finals with a score of 738.75, nearly 70 points ahead of his closest competition, Hawaii's Mats Wiktorsson, who earned 669.35 points in the event.

Senior Cassidy Farwell led the ASU women in the event, finishing 8th with 417.40 points.

Day one saw Benedetti start the tournament competition in strong fashion, as he finished in second place in the one-meter dive with a score of 686.10.

ASU sophomore Billy Sweeney checked in at 14th place with a score of 542.25.

Farwell cracked the top 15 for the ASU women on day one, as she finished in 14th place in the three-meter event with a score of 513.45.

The men's three-meter event took place on the second day of competition, and Benedetti placed third with a score of 708.40.

Sweeney also finished in the top 10 in the event, placing ninth with a score of 652.90.

Sophomore Erin Hobbs was the Sun Devils' top female performer on the day, as she finished 17th in the one-meter event with a score of 467.55.

With his efforts, Benedetti - who has drawn comparisons to former ASU diver and NCAA national champion Joona Puhakka all season - has earned a berth for the NCAA championships, where will compete March 15 to 17 in Minneapolis, Minn.
