One of ASU's all-time great coaches was given college baseball's ultimate honor last week.
Dr. Jim Brock was one of five coaches inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday in Lubbock, Texas.
"This is a very proud day for the Sun Devil Baseball family," current ASU baseball coach Pat Murphy said.
Brock began his coaching career at ASU back in 1971 and led the Sun Devils for 23 years, before his career and life ended early after a battle with cancer.
When Brock took over the program, he had to follow up another legend, coach Bobby Winkles, who was inducted into the CBHOF last season.
Following up the legacy of Winkles, who amassed three national titles as ASU's first baseball coach put extra pressure on Brock, who went on to build a legacy of his own.
Brock put together a career record of 1,100-440 while coaching the Sun Devils to 13 College World Series appearances and two national titles.
Brock also won several coaching awards throughout his career, including five Pac-10 Coach of the Year awards, and two NCAA Coach of the Year honors.
In addition to his accomplishments at Packard Stadium, Brock also excelled in the ASU classrooms earning bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees.
Brock joins Winkles and former ASU player Bob Horner as the three Sun Devils in the CBHOF.
Chuck "Bobo" Brayton of Washington State, Bibb Falk of Texas, Jerry Kindall of Arizona and Dick Siebert of Minnesota, were the other coaches inducted in the 2007 class.
