SURF IT UP
(In response to Will Munsil’s Nov. 29 column “Netflix and the new world.”)
I am having trouble making the connection that Netflix causes people to be less creative. I can see the time-sink argument, as in because people are spending their time watching movies instead of creating other forms of media, but I feel that if the people wanted to create media they would do that rather than watch the movies in the first place.
You brought up fan communities and how they are “real and should not be discounted simply because they have grown around entertainment,” which I agree with. Do you think that belonging to these fan communities gives people a chance to make creative works?
The only reason I bring this question up is because the Lostepedia wiki has over 7,000 user-generated content pages and by taking a look at the discussion pages this community has created thousands of threads, images and podcasts about what the show means.
