Letter to the Editor: March 30

MORE OF THE SAME

(In response to Katie Shoultz’s March 24 article, “USG confronts transparency issues.”)

This is partly in response to the transparency article published last week and an email conversation I had with current USG President Jacob Goulding.  It is appalling that the current administration is running again after accomplishing so little last year and failing to fulfill many campaign promises.

So I decided to look into the current administration.  As student leaders, I think it is imperative they provide the students who elected them with the level of leadership they deserve.  This past year has shown the exact opposite out of the current USG administration, which is running again because they were unable to accomplish their goals this year.

Can someone explain to me why, as a student who pays this $25 per semester student programming fee, which is set to increase to $75 per semester next year, I have no idea where my money is going?

About a month and a half ago I contacted the USG office in an attempt to get a copy of the budget. Our conversation began on February 28 and still has not been resolved to date.  I simply asked him for a copy of the USG budget, and on March 7 I received the proposed budget from Goulding.

Last week on March 24 I followed up with him, to which he forwarded my request on to administrators in the USG office whom I also heard nothing from.  My last email from him was on Friday afternoon in which he stated, “I do not have a copy of the running total of the USG budget.”

Why would we elect this group again, as they have obviously not done anything this past year?
