FACTS NOT PROPAGANDA
(In response to Sade Hurst’s Aug. 26 news story, “Glenn Beck inspires ASU pro-Israel gathering.)
I find Ms. Back and Ms. Hiermandi’s statements to The State Press regarding the Glenn Beck rally events rather strange.
Their comments suggested that pro-Israel individuals feel no need to consider the interests of the Palestinians even though polls have shown 82 percent of American Jews support a U.S. push for a two-state solution to the conflict.
Additionally, these two women trivialized the horrible reality of recognized terrorist organizations that persecute both Israelis and Palestinian civilians.
Perhaps these ladies need to be reminded of Hamas’ charter, which cites and praises a hadith that states Judgment Day cannot occur until Jews are fought against and massacred.
On top of violent actions directed at the Jewish state, Hamas is also responsible for a plethora of social and economic problems within the Gaza Strip, including the inconsistent distribution of humanitarian aid resources, mandatory jail time for homosexual activities and not ensuring that Palestinian youth have access to a quality education. In fact, Hamas recently forbade eight Palestinian teenagers from studying abroad in the U.S.
I believe that Ms. Back and Ms. Hiermandi should try to correct the inconsistencies within their own cause before trying to pick apart another. I encourage the members of their activist group, Students for Justice in Palestine, to finally denounce the real and dangerous threat of Palestinian terrorist factions as an obstacle to peace.
That way, the other ASU students and I can be assured that SJP is not merely a propaganda machine churning out slander against Israel.
