Letters: Sept. 20

ALIVE AND KICKIN’

(In response to the Sept. 14 letter to the editor)

Anyone that believes PC gaming is dead never understood the point behind PC gaming. I noticed the street cred games, “Doom II” and “Quake.” Those are nice, but PC gaming’s roots are not in multiplayer.

They originate from the need to entertain one’s self and challenge the player via the computer’s hardware. PC gaming has been about the evolution, and the continued understanding of one’s hardware.

Those case mods with the lights, bells, and whistles you speak off have died off with the quieting of Local Area Network parties. You can blame that on home entertainment systems, consoles.

PC gaming is about learning the hardware, understanding your own rig and the advancement of it. Playing with friends needed a majority audience in order to take off correctly. The masses needed something they could use to play with their friends with at a range of incomes. PC gaming isn’t dead, console gaming is where our friends are.

PC gaming isn’t dead, and won’t die because right now it is busy evolving to compete with this market’s changes. If anything console gaming is dying thanks to cloud gaming and digital content. The PC has always carried the gold star in connectivity.

Something else to keep in mind is the fact that PC gamers have evolved as well. We broke off into sub-communities such as, this person. The PC gamer turned console gamer, not everyone had the actual patience in order to keep up with the evolution of PCs.

Then there is the hardware enthusiast, those that are devoted to pushing hardware to its operating limits. Finally, there is the casual gamer that sits on the fence because of his friends.

PC gaming isn’t dead, far from it. You have just left the neighborhood because of peer pressure.
