LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Well, this Tuesday edition of The State Press brings the end of yet another semester. The student body made this a memorable term.
The most rewarding part of this job was reader interaction; seeing the responses that opinion columns and news articles produced was incredible.
A relationship is built when this newspaper and its readers constantly interact. This camaraderie produces thoughtful commentary and allows for students to voice concerns. It ensures The State Press’ very existence.
Never stop reading and interacting. Both of these foster public discourse, which is the first stop on the road to finding solutions to the problems we face as individuals, a campus and a community.
With the advent of social media, it is easier than ever for journalists and readers to connect.
As a State Press veteran — I have been here for seven semesters — I have seen the media landscape evolve.
When I started in the fall of 2008, which seems like eons ago, The State Press hardly had any followers on either Facebook or Twitter; now we have thousands of people to interact with on both platforms.
The print edition looked more like a newspaper, fold and all. Now, it is more visually appealing and reads more like a news magazine.
In my time here I saw the economy crash, tuition skyrocket and education get defunded. I saw Arizona pass a stringent immigration law and watched as the state Senate tried to roll back birthright citizenship.
I saw faint moments of athletic glory, only to be snatched from victory by the jaws of defeat.
Through it all, the students kept reading, and that has been the best part of the job. It always will be. Without an audience, I would be unemployed.
