With the State Legislature introducing bills such as HB 2675, the minimum tuition bill, and SB 1474, the guns on campus bill, our focus has been pulled away from one of the major issues that students should be concerned about: the state budget.

Last year, our State Legislature directed the Arizona Board of Regents to develop a plan to fix the disparity in per student funding that has plagued our statewide University system for over 50 years. In a historical event, presidents at each of the universities, Regents and student leaders agreed to a five-year plan to fix the fact that ASU receives $896 less than UA and NAU receives $758 less than UA.

Now, despite direction from the same legislators that are now working on the budget, the plan is being ignored. It is time for students at ASU to step up and contact elected officials from across the state to ask them to support including the disparity in funding request in the state budget. Over the past few years, we have experienced over $400 million in cuts, leading directly to tuition hikes. Show our legislature that you are invested in your education and you want them to be as well. Contact information can be found at www.azleg.gov.
