Grizzly Bear has never been the sort of band to have a die-hard following. The breakthrough album “Veckatimest” showed the group’s ability to subtly blend indie-pop, folk and psych, but the current music scene isn’t exactly bereft of those sorts of outfits. It was only a matter of time that these ursine would look for something to distinguish themselves with.

David Byrne and St. Vincent — whose real name is Annie Clark — both have fairly guitar-centric pasts, but they’ve exchanged their six-strings for a much less conventional palette. I’m fully aware of the fact that voicing concerns about the cost of attending ASU is kind of a softball of a topic to write on. After all, who among us wouldn’t like to see the trajectory of tuition change its course and start sloping downwards?

The state government of Minnesota has been shut down for over a week now, and it appears that negotiations remain utterly inert. The state faces a $5 billion deficit and lawmakers are faced with the challenge of plugging the hole in the financial ship of state.

The amount of political theater occurring in regards to raising the debt ceiling is quite remarkable. The nation is set to reach the limit on its debt Aug. 2, giving lawmakers a little under a month to hammer out a deal.

We live in a world filled with all sorts of chemicals. Nearly everything we touch in our daily routines has some sort of tie to the chemical industry, from the plastic cutting board in the kitchen to the soles of your shoes.

Despite the fact that we're over a year out from the next election, one of the most intriguing issues in national politics continues to be which candidate will emerge victorious from the Republican primary process.

Here in the United States, we like to pay lip service to the idea of treating those in prison awaiting a trial with fairness and decency. You know, the whole Eighth Amendment prohibition of “cruel and unusual punishment” business.

I woke up on Wednesday thinking it would be like any other weekday: uncomfortable and full of anticipation for the weekend. But I soon received a wondrous blessing from the news gods, one that fulfilled one of my most fervent wishes.

It's 2011, folks. You know what that means. The media circus that surrounds the presidential campaign trail is already open for business.

Everybody hates taxes. It can be fairly disheartening to take home a paycheck and see how much of your earnings aren't actually going to you. I understand that.

It's no secret that spending cuts are all the rage in Washington. Politicians all over the political spectrum are filling the air with lofty rhetoric about the need for the federal government to shrink the national debt. Unfortunately, this deficit frenzy has overlooked one crucial piece of information — millions of Americans have no jobs.

While Congress may not always have the best timing when it comes to debating legislation, the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act couldn’t come at a worse time.
