I'll admit, I've committed every one of the "seven deadly sins." Of course, not to the extreme that is depicted in films like "Seven," but after hearing about Lent for weeks, I decided to try to avoid these sins for seven days and keep track of my progress.

The building on the corner of Mill Avenue and Sixth Street in downtown Tempe has seen a variety of restaurants come and go in the last few years. Dragonfly Vietnamese Kitchen, currently taking up residency there, seems to be an unlikely candidate for permanency.

A slice of New York has found its way onto campus in the form of the fast-paced pizzeria Lorenzo's Pizza. The pizzeria, formerly located on University Drive, recently moved into the spot owned by Villa Pizza, north of the Fulton Center. With its return, Lorenzo's brings cheap and easy New York-style pizza as well as other Italian dishes such as pizza, pasta, salads and calzones — a perfect lunch for hungry college students.

Chandler recently saw the re-opening of one of its latest dining experiences, Benihana, with much hype about the trendy atmosphere and entertaining food exhibition. The restaurant embraces new interior design, setting large grill tables in open rooms with wall murals of natural images like green bamboo, yellow and orange leaves, and red flowers. Unfortunately, this artistic decorating approach does not make up for the restaurant's corporate and impersonal atmosphere.

The menu at Supreme Master Ching Hai Vegetarian House may confuse first-timers; the vegan restaurant's menu has an entire section devoted to meat dishes and another dedicated to seafood entrees. It's no misprint, though. Veggie House, as regulars call it, uses soy to produce imitation meats, which it cooks into Asian-themed dishes.

If you're looking for a quick, cheap lunch, try Lee's Sandwiches, located in a shopping center on the southeastern corner of Warner and Dobson Roads. Lee's touts Eurasian sandwiches — which combine European and Asian flavors — as the main attraction, but the best thing on the menu is the low prices. For less than $5, patrons get a filling sandwich in minutes at this partial-service delicatessen.

There are only a handful of tapas restaurants in Phoenix, and Lola Tapas is rumored to be one of the better of the few. Unfortunately, rumors are not always true.

Something new is smoking near Tempe campus, bringing barbecue to college students in a laid-back environment. Urban Campfire's sign is neither eye-catching, nor inspiring. It's easy to drive by without noticing that recently, this small, unassuming building became home to an affordable smokehouse restaurant.

It may seem odd to pay to eat at a restaurant where you have to cook your own food, but the experience at Shabu Fondue is well worth it. Shabu Fondue gives the communal Swiss dipping meal an Asian twist at a reasonable price, creating deliciously interactive meals.

Although it may seem odd to go to the mall to find a good restaurant, look no further than Scottsdale Fashion Square if you're in the mood for something fun, affordable and fabulous.
