Bravo to the hilarity of the leaked email from a Delta Gamma sorority girl that went viral last week. Rebecca Martinson, chair of the University of Maryland Delta Gamma chapter, wrote a harsh and profanity-riddled rant about her fellow sorority sisters and their perceived failure to represent the institution in a positive, outgoing light. The best part of the whole debacle are the "dramatic readings" that have popped up all over the Internet, including one by Michael Shannon.

When we hear or see the word "terrorism," we have an almost inescapable flashback to 9/11, and we scramble for the nearest TV or computer to find out more. This is often what major national news organizations have come to rely upon to drive programming (and viewership).

Bravo to Aamira Fetuga, the 8-year-old Tennessee girl whose civic activism persuaded one Tennessee lawmaker to drop his "Education to End Poverty" bill in the state legislature. The bill would have reduced the amount of financial assistance available to low-income families whose children perform poorly in school, aiming to increase parental involvement in children's education.

It is usually a big deal when any journalist ends up in the news instead of reporting on it.
Fox News contributor Jana Winter may face jail time for refusing to reveal one of her sources after she reported that law enforcement officials had obtained a notebook that accused shooter James Holmes sent to his psychiatrist.
(04/09/13 1:00am)
Bravo to Jana Winter, the Fox News contributor who may be sentenced to spend time in jail for refusing to identify her sources in her investigative reporting into the background of alleged Aurora, Colo. shooter, James Holmes. Winter received one of Holmes' notebooks containing his detailed plans for the July 20 shooting and has been subpoenaed by Holmes' attorneys to testify. The judge will rule whether Winter must disclose her source in order to avoid jail time on April 10. We applaud her for defending the freedom of the press while risking her own.

For the past 67 years, Sparky has been the beloved mascot of ASU.
(04/02/13 1:10am)
Bravo to CBS. After the Louisville sophomore guard Kevin Ware's gruesome injury, the broadcast team made the tasteful decision not to air replays of the injury taking place. Ware suffered a compound fracture so horrible that it did not need to be shown again on air.
(03/27/13 12:30am)
Bravo to the U.S. Supreme Court for taking two cases that can result in the legalization of same-sex marriage. Whether or not the Supreme Court rules to do so, the fact is that it have chosen to hear a case that means so much to so many Americans. These are interesting times, to be sure.

The spring semester is always divided more or less in two by spring break. Those two months before spring break are stressful, to be sure, but they are brightened by the thought of a week off from school.
(03/19/13 9:50pm)
Bravo to the mostly peaceful resolution of a foiled mass shooting at University of Central Florida. James Oliver Seevakumaran threatened his roommate with a gun, and the roommate reported him to the police. Police arrived on the scene to find that he had stockpiled guns and explosives and planned to attack the students living in his residence hall. Seevakumaran was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot. No one else was hurt.
Boo to peoposed tuition hikes, which will bring Arizona resident tuition to nearly $10,000 next fall.

Author F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote, "Show me a hero, and I'll write you a tragedy."
(03/06/13 1:00am)
Bravo to the Mississippi infant who was "cured" of HIV after 18 months of "aggressive HIV therapy" that began within the first two days of his birth. More than 300,000 babies are born with HIV each year, according to most estimates. This is a step in the right direction for eradicating one of the largest humanitarian crises across the globe.

Students and alumni react to Sparky's changes.
(03/05/13 12:18am)
If you have walked by the ASU bookstore in the past week or so, you probably felt an odd shiver as you ambled by the new ASU merchandise featuring the redesigned Sparky.
(02/27/13 12:31am)
One of the hallmarks of life at ASU is the large and diverse community. There are over 70,000 students enrolled, and it's nearly impossible to fit that many people into one box. It's impossible to capture the vibrancy of ASU, but the concept of a "New American University" comes close.
How do we define a New American University? We're not an Ivy League university. We can't hold our own in football against the SEC. We don't have a medical school. We don't have astronomically high tuition. We don't have snow days.
(02/26/13 3:00am)
Bravo to the Billy Ray Harris, the homeless Missouri man who returned a woman's lost engagement ring. According to the Associated Press, a woman had accidentally dropped her ring into Harris's collecting cup. It's refreshing to see that while nearly every other news story is concerned with tragedy, there are still decent people in the world.
(02/20/13 9:00pm)
Political commentators often decry the low rates of political participation among Americans. In an age of bitter partisan rivalries and scandal after scandal, there is a fear that an outspoken minority may be able to exert undue influence on policymakers without a vigorous and active electorate.
(02/20/13 1:00am)
Bravo to the Burger King Twitter hackers, whoever they were. The hackers, who claimed to be from Lulz Security, revamped the fast food restaurant's account to look like the official McDonalds' Twitter.
(02/14/13 1:00am)
Bravo to recent movie release, "Warm Bodies." This adorable tale of romance between a human and zombie in a post-apocalyptic wasteland was devoid of all the typical characteristics that make up your average rom-com. In addition to portraying a light-hearted, humorous romance, the movie commented on the human condition of lacking compassion toward others. Also, how could you not love Nicholas Hoult?
