Culture Undiscovered: Found Art at the Made in Arizona Art Festival

Because I’m from Scottsdale, I try to stay as far away from it as possible. Its unique combination of high-end plastic surgery and relentlessly entitled prep-school kids appeals to a very specific group of people -- one that I’m not a part of -- and usually offers little in the way of arts, culture or sanity.

Turf Talk: Plummeting Doubt in Student Pride

Arizona State University wants Sun Devils to have that “Sun Devil Experience.” This is why on Fridays you see students and faculty rocking gold shirts and, in spurts, sporting neon trucker hats and paper cutouts of James Harden’s beard. Looking out over the Tempe Campus from the Student Recreation Center in her Sun Devil swag, Stefani Plummer, the assistant director of campus recreation, says she can see this revitalization of pride.

Broke's the New Black: Most Fashionable Athletes

Millions of fans flock to sports stadiums, watch ESPN or buy the latest Sports Illustrated just to keep up-to-date with the athletes they idolize.  The athletes tear up the competition in play, but off the field some dress better than one might ever expect, and they deserve as much respect as a Heisman trophy.  It was hard to pick the best as there are so many good dressers out there so here are just some of the best-dressed athletes from a wide range of sports:  Maria Sharapova: Tennis This Russian blonde bombshell kills it on the court and in her closet.  As a Nike-sponsored athlete, Sharapova broadcasts her fashion pieces from the brand while playing, yet never ceases to amaze at off-court events.  Maxim rated her the hottest athlete four years in a row.  She’s also graced many magazine covers while modeling in ads for Cole Haan, Canon, and Tiffany & Co. Dwyane Wade: NBA Basketball Dwyane Wade is “a sharp-dressed man,” as NBC San Diego called him in a photomontage.  This NBA superstar continuously gains recognition as a polished dresser who takes fashion risks, often adding pops of color or a fedora to his ensemble.  Crowned as Forbes’ “Fashion Avant Guard,” Wade surely dresses to impress. Danica Patrick: NASCAR For a sport known for its stereotypical fans and correlating attire, Danica Patrick surely stands out among her competition.  With beautiful, brunette locks and a body that only gets better with fewer clothes, she’s a showstopper at formal events and even graced the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. Tom Brady: NFL, Football It’s Tom Brady. Do I even have to continue?

Piece of Craft: Watercolor Textual Effects

I love to paint, especially with watercolors.  Sometimes, though, I feel like I need to find a new technique to freshen up my designs and my technique.  Online I’ve found all kinds of textual effects to give your artwork a new appeal.  Here are some great ideas: Alcohol: Putting drops of alcohol onto your already-damp work can create a cool drop or swirl effect.  The alcohol drops here will manifest themselves in a white-ish color.
