Sparky’s Quill: Theodore Roosevelt at ASU

March 20, 1911: In front of the beautiful Old Main at Tempe Normal School, Theodore Roosevelt recited his speech. He stood on the same steps that you can walk on today. There was a fair amount of people gathered around in the pleasant March air.

ASU students most often react with humor and rebuttals at the controversial preaching on campus. Yet, both parties aren't swayed to stop preaching or rebutting.

The blue uniformed men stand perfectly in line, staring ahead of them. The rifles in their hands are shaking, a sign of their nervousness. There is no talking, no whispering, no noise.

Sparky's Quill: Ghost Towns

A tumbleweed blows in the quiet dusty road lined with old buildings. Signs of past life surround the buildings by way of old creaking signs and rundown barrels.
