A busy weekend for ASU athletics brought a sweep of Arizona, and hockey’s losing streak continues despite winning two games. Here’s what you may have missed over the weekend:

Women’s basketball wins both games of Territorial Cup series

After its 61-49 win Friday at home over the Wildcats, women’s basketball went on the road to face its in-state foes again Sunday. Head coach Charli Turner Thorne and the Sun Devils cruised to a 62-47 victory, sealing the team’s 14th consecutive win and a two-game sweep.

The Sun Devils are now 17-3 overall and 8-0 in the Pac-12 conference.

Masters nets hat trick, hockey sweeps Ohio during losing streak

Sun Devil hockey got a break from its 13-game losing streak to play two exhibition games against ACHA Ohio University.

In the second game of the series, Sun Devil freshman forward Jordan Masters scored three goals to secure the first hat trick in ASU history.

“It’s a great feeling,” he said. “I can’t even remember the last time I had one, so it's good to get back finally."

Tennis sweeps Notre Dame, drops match to Northwestern

At the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend, ASU tennis lost its match to No. 26 Northwestern. The Sun Devils, ranked 27th, came back to sweep No. 32 Notre Dame, including a doubles win from senior Desirae Krawczyk and junior Gussie O’Sullivan.

The team will now face No. 43 Princeton on Thursday, followed by a Friday contest against UTEP. Both matches will be played in Tempe.

Wrestling beats West Virginia, loses to Stanford

A 17-17 score against West Virginia at Wells Fargo Arena was decided in ASU’s favor by their 53-49 point advantage. The victory included an 8-1 individual win by freshman heavyweight Tanner Hall.

In the next match against Stanford, Sun Devil sophomore Robbie Mathers lost to No. 2 Joe McKenna. In the loss, Mathers was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty. ASU went on to lose 23-13 against the Cardinal.

“Robbie’s emotional maturity is a challenge for him,” said ASU head coach Zeke Jones. “Until he can take the jump to the next level, I think he needs to learn how to control that emotion and harness that anger and turn it into productive intensity.”

Swim and Dive loses badly at Stanford

The Stanford Cardinal beat more than just ASU wrestling; it also toppled both the men’s and women’s swim and dive teams.

In California, the men’s swim and dive team fell 157-83 to Stanford, and the women dropped their meet 176-63.

The match was ASU assistant coach and Olympian Misty Hyman’s first match against her alma mater.

Gym Devils drop first road meet of season

ASU’s gymnastics team lost to No. 2 Oklahoma and Iowa State Friday night, in spite of several of their team members posting individual career bests and season highs.

Sun Devils Eileen Imbus, Heather Udowitch, Corinne Belkoff, Beka Conrad, Carissa Kraus and Kristine Levin all set either career-highs or season-highs with their performances in various events.

Water Polo sweeps No.14 Indiana

ASU water polo’s freshman goalie Mia Rycraw was part of the weekend effort that held Indiana to just 25 goals in the four-game series. Rycraw’s performance earned her this week’s State Press Player of the Week award.

In the series, ASU won 10-5, 13-8, 22-8 and 23-4. Only Saturday’s pair of games counted, as Sunday’s matches were considered exhibitions. Water polo is now 2-0 to start their season.

Track and Field men and women place fourth at Texas A&M Quadrangular

Both the men and women placed behind Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Texas Tech at a weekend tournament. The Aggies’ men’s and women’s teams each took first.

The ASU women’s team claimed each of the top three finishes in the 3000-meter race, marking perhaps the Sun Devils’ best performance of the weekend. Junior Adriana Olivas, senior Shaina Corbin and freshman Samantha Ortega placed in the top three respectively.

Men's basketball suffers heartbreaker to Stanford

ASU men's basketball had another close game in the final moments, but again, it could not pull out the victory. After taking a one-point lead with 1:41 remaining in the game, ASU held the lead until 36 seconds remained.

Stanford hit a game-winner in the closing seconds, not giving ASU enough time to respond. ASU fell to 11-9, and are now 1-6 in interconference play.
