JC and Laney have been in the local music scene for some time — mostly apart. JC caught up with Laney through the musical grapevine relatively recently and the duo hit it off instantly. It wouldn't be tough to guess that if you sat in for a performance (like, say, the one here): Their harmonies are reminiscent of classic Fleetwood Mac or Simon & Garfunkel, beautiful and masterfully done, while JC's guitar-work provides the perfect accompaniment.

Get cozy at the Trunk Space, Phoenix's quirkiest venue, with Breathe Owl Breathe. The Michigan band's latest album, "Magic Central," is filled with whimsical folk harmonies, perfect for getting you (and the SPM Acoustics crew) all ready for spring.

Lady rockers Meg & Dia met up with SPM Acoustics before their November show at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale. The Utah-born indie duo, whose latest release was November's "It's Always Stormy in Tillamook" EP, played both for a rambunctious Old Town crowd and for our acoustic-lovin' film crew. Get to know the Frampton sisters in an interview above, then check out an exclusive performance of "My Ugly Mouth" below.

Meet Colour Revolt, an energetic indie rock band from Mississippi that has garnered national attention touring the country with major indie acts like Dinasour Jr. and Manchester Orchestra. But with the release of the band's powerful sophomore album, "The Cradle," it's safe to say Colour Revolt is more just an opening act. Sit down with SPM Acoustics and hear more from the Southern five-man band that Paste magazine called the next Arcade Fire.

Ahhh... It's good to be back. In the Secret Garden, that is. SPM Acoustics spent its first season recording musicians in the not-so-hidden courtyard on the Arizona State University Tempe campus. We're proud to return to our roots after branching out to Tempe parks and Phoenix music venues, but we're even prouder to host an acoustic session with ASU sophomore Adam Simons.

As the Phoenician sun sets on the commuting westbound cars, the Rhythm Room reverberates with the sound checks of Patrick Park, Sera Cahoone and Sea Wolf. Fresh on the road, the second night of their latest tour, the atmosphere is jovial and energetic.

Last Friday, a hoard of excited and (mostly) politically conscious fans filled the Marquee Theatre for the Artists for Action concert and voter registration rally. But hours before the big event, lineup highlight Miniature Tigers sat down for an intimate performance in the summer heat with SPM Acoustics.

It was a Sunday afternoon and campus was empty, save for a few maintenance guys and their jackhammers. At high noon, the day wasn't exactly cooling off, but a light breeze was blowing outside Matthews Center (where your favorite campus newspaper is designed, created and slaved over daily), and someone from the SPM Acoustics crew might have been whistling. When Matthew Reveles, a locally based folk singer-songwriter, sat down for his set, he and pal/bandmate Armando Torres seemed like two unassuming, friendly dudes. It was, as some might say, chill.

It's time to embrace it, Arizona: the local music scene is practically overflowing with talent. Noma (a duo from Tucson) is proof of that local gold mine, and then some. The band paid a visit to our set, bringing with them all the tools needed for wherever the night would take them — including bells, a didgeridoo and a ceramic statue named Grape Man.

The Beatles have been getting a lot of hype lately — and by lately, we mean the past 46 years. But with the popularity of the recently released Beatles Rock Band and remastered albums, it's pretty obvious Beatlemania will never go out of style. Which is part of why we were so excited to welcome Locksley to the SPM Acoustics family.

It wasn't until Ezra Furman was right in front of us, performing for our small crew in the Secret Garden, that we finally realized who the young musician reminded us of. "Dylan!" I mouthed to Erica Rodriguez (who you'll see in the interview below) during Furman's sweet, sad "Gimme Some Sugar."

Living in Arizona can often feel like living out an endless summer — it's October in Tempe, and yet the streets are still filled with bikers and pedestrians, soaking up sunny days like it's the middle of July. It's no wonder Kyle and Natalie's light, energetic set fit right in with the perfect weather during our inaugural SPM Acoustic Session.
Though Kyle Archer and Natalie Distler started out as a duo, they've broadened their band to include bassist Ryan Williams, guitarist Fredrik Eriksson and drummer Jonathan Logan. (You might even recognize Natalie from the hit FX show, Rescue Me.) Together, the band relies on their relaxed chemistry and feel-good melodies to deliver some honest pop that, as fall greets ASU, is reminiscent of the sounds of summer. See for yourself.
