With the growth of anti-smoking campaigns and garish warning labels on tobacco products, cigarette smokers have become increasingly demonized in our society. It is understandable, though, due to the overwhelming data regarding tobacco-induced illness and death.

For the last three years, the ASU Health and Counseling Student Action Committee has worked toward making the university a tobacco-free campus to no avail. However, a pivotal decision is on the horizon: The university senate can endorse the long overdue tobacco-free campus policy when it meets on Sept. 17. By approving and recommending this policy to ASU President Michael Crow and Provost Elizabeth Capaldi, the university senate can advance this cause to help reduce student tobacco use and protect all campus patrons from the life-threatening effects of secondhand smoke.

According to Ohio Sen. Nina Turner, R-Cleveland, if women’s reproductive health is regulated, so should men’s. A new bill has been stalking the Tennessee House of Representatives. It’s been dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Pushed into the halls of legislation by State Rep. Joey Hensley, R-Hohenweld, the bill aims to limit sexual education in public schools to "natural human reproduction science" from kindergarten all the way up to eighth grade and bars educators from providing "any instruction or material that discusses sexual orientation other than heterosexuality."
